AEK Larnaca Sacks Spanish Coach Imanol Idiakez
Cypriot club AEK Larnaca officially announced on March 4, 2026, the dismissal of Spanish coach Imanol Idiakez, bringing an end to his tenure which began last July. In a statement published on its official social media accounts, the club clarified that the decision was made to terminate the contractual relationship between both parties, while extending gratitude to the coach for his efforts and professionalism throughout his time with the first team.
This marks Idiakez's third period at the helm of AEK Larnaca. The club has not yet announced the identity of the new head coach who will take over. These developments coincide with the resignation of Sporting Director Xavi Roca yesterday, placing the club in a phase of administrative and technical changes amidst ongoing competitions.
Regarding the team's on-field performance, AEK Larnaca currently sits third in the Cypriot League standings, trailing leaders Omonia by eight points. Despite this, under the Spanish coach's leadership, the team successfully secured direct qualification for the next round of the UEFA Europa Conference League. Idiakez had also previously guided the team to win the Cypriot Super Cup against Paphos before his current spell concluded with this dismissal.
