Rijeka Coach Victor Sanchez del Amo Resumes Duties After Hospital Discharge
Spanish coach Victor Sanchez del Amo has returned to his technical duties with Croatian club HNK Rijeka this week, following a health scare that saw him hospitalized for several days last week. His return comes after the team secured qualification for the UEFA Europa Conference League Round of 16. Medical reports indicated that competitive stress and work pressure were contributing factors to the coach's health condition.
Del Amo spent two or three days in the hospital receiving treatment before making a full recovery. During his absence, assistant coach Ramiro Muñoz took charge of training sessions and official matches. Under Muñoz's guidance, Rijeka secured a 2-0 victory over Lokomotiva Zagreb in the Croatian league. The team had also previously confirmed their continental progression by defeating Omonia 3-1 to secure their place in the knockout stages.
Assistant coach Ramiro Muñoz confirmed the coach's strong desire to return, stating, "Victor signed his hospital discharge form under his personal responsibility to be with us as soon as possible." For his part, Del Amo extended a message of gratitude to all who supported him, saying, "I feel fortunate for my full recovery and for having a world-class staff who stepped up when needed. I am very grateful to the doctors at KBC Hospital, the HNK Rijeka management, and the players for their support to me and my family. Thank you to everyone for the messages of support."
HNK Rijeka currently sits third in the Croatian league standings. The team looks forward to continuing its positive momentum in both domestic and European competitions with the return of their head coach to lead the technical helm for the upcoming phase of the season.
