However, the charged atmosphere after the game prompted Villas-Boas to confirm the club's commitment to pursuing legal proceedings. The Porto president affirmed the club's intention to officially pursue action against the player, stating: "Yes, we intend to do so." This comes amidst strong reactions from Sporting Lisbon president Frederico Varandas, who responded sharply to these statements in defense of his player and team.

Villas-Boas based his prediction of a four-match suspension for the player on a similar incident he witnessed during his previous coaching career in the Chinese Super League, emphasizing the need for strict application of regulations.
