Sevilla Coach Matías Almeyda Apologizes, Calls Suspension 'Unjust'
Sevilla coach Matías Almeyda has been handed a seven-match suspension following his expulsion during his team's match against Alavés. The decision was based on the referee Iosu Galich's report after the incident.
Almeyda, for his part, announced his acceptance of the penalty, apologizing for the actions that led to his dismissal. He stated, “I apologize, but I also accept it.” However, the coach stressed that he considers the decision “unjust,” asserting that he did nothing to warrant being sent off.
In the same context, Almeyda denied directing any insults towards anyone, emphasizing that he merely protested the referee's decisions. The coach also announced his intention to cease all forms of communication with referees in the future, whether positive or negative.
