LFP: Angers vs. Lille Match to Be Played Behind Closed Doors Due to Exceptional Weather
The French Professional Football League (LFP) has announced that the Ligue 1 match between Angers and Lille, scheduled for Sunday, will be played behind closed doors. This decision, affecting the 23rd round fixture, was made due to severe weather conditions and rising flood levels in the Angers metropolitan area.
The LFP clarified that these conditions create significant traffic difficulties and necessitate police mobilization, making Stade Raymond Kopa unable to safely accommodate spectators. In this context, the League stated: “Due to the exceptional weather situation related to severe flooding in the Angers metropolitan area, the Angers vs. Lille match will be played behind closed doors.”
Furthermore, both Angers and Lille club managements requested that the fixture proceed, even without fans, despite initial expectations of nearly 10,000 spectators. The LFP confirmed: “Based on the request of both clubs, who strongly wish for the match to take place, even if behind closed doors, the Angers vs. Lille match will be held behind closed doors.”
