Klaus Filbry: "Playing in a City with Unrest and Shootings Does Not Align with Our Club's Values"
Werder Bremen has announced the cancellation of its planned summer tour in the United States, citing multiple concerns including opposition to the Trump administration's immigration policies and worries about civil unrest.
Klaus Filbry, the club's general manager, explained that playing in a city experiencing unrest and shootings does not align with the club's values. He emphasized this point by stating: "Playing in a city that is currently experiencing unrest and where people are being shot does not align with our club's values."
The club also expressed concern that stricter entry requirements for the United States, including the review of social media profiles, could prevent some players from entering. Filbry noted: "It is no longer clear which players will be able to enter the United States due to the implementation of stricter entry requirements, which include reviewing social media profiles from the past five years."
Furthermore, Filbry indicated that the team's current sporting situation, sitting in 16th place, makes medium-term planning difficult and involves certain financial risks. He stated: "Our current sporting situation makes planning difficult and involves certain financial risks."
It should be noted that the regulation regarding the review of social media for entry into the United States is not yet in effect.
