Gavi Martinez Takes Interim Charge at Sevilla Following Almeyda's Seven-Match Ban
Sevilla Football Club has announced that assistant coach Gavi Martinez will take over as interim head coach for the first team. This decision comes after head coach Matías Almeyda was handed a seven-match suspension.
Almeyda's suspension stems from his expulsion at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. Martinez had previously led the team during the eighteenth league match when Almeyda was serving an earlier ban.
Martinez will now guide Sevilla through a series of upcoming matches, including fixtures against Getafe, Real Betis, Rayo Vallecano, Barcelona, Valencia, Real Oviedo, and Atlético Madrid.
In this context, Jesús Galván, a former colleague of Gavi Martinez, commented: “He is a well-prepared young man, loyal and honest, and he handles himself with class. I believe he knows how to communicate with the head coach and the difference won't be noticed.”
Galván added that Martinez “understands what Matías wants because Gavi is very intelligent in this regard and knows exactly what needs to be done.”
Gavi Martinez began his coaching career at Sevilla Football Club after retiring as a player at the age of 28. He received his training at the club's academy from the age of eight and previously played as a right winger for Sevilla Atlético.
