Sevilla Coach Matías Almeyda Suspended for Seven Matches
The Competitions Committee has announced a seven-match suspension for Sevilla coach Matías Almeyda. The decision, issued on Wednesday, follows his dismissal during the team's match against Alavés and is based on the referee's report.
The Competitions Committee confirmed that the decision was made based on the report from referee Iosu Galech Apezteguía, following the sending-off incident during the Alavés encounter. Almeyda commented on the incident, stating, "I lost my temper because I was asking the referee why he sent me off, and he never told me the reason. It's very easy now to write the news that Almeyda was sent off, but no one knows why."
In response, Sevilla FC announced its intention to appeal the suspension to all relevant authorities, aiming to reduce the duration of the penalty imposed on their coach. This means Almeyda will be absent from the dugout during a crucial period of La Liga matches, starting with the upcoming fixture against Getafe. This marks his second dismissal of the current season.
Sevilla president José María del Nido Carrasco had previously lodged an official complaint with the Referees Committee officials after the Alavés match, expressing the club's concerns about a severe penalty due to the referee's report and the perceived anger from the officiating body.
