Referee and Family Receive Death Threats Following Inter Milan-Juventus Clash
Referee Federico La Penna has reported receiving death threats and other forms of harassment directed at himself and his family following the match between Inter Milan and Juventus. La Penna informed the police in Rome about these incidents, who subsequently advised him not to leave his home.
The threats extended to include the referee's wife and children. Reports indicate that these threatening messages were in response to his decision to send off player Pierre Kalulu during the game. Commenting on the situation, Francesco Massini, Vice President of the Referees' Association, stated: "What happened has crossed all boundaries of civility and sportsmanship. It should anger everyone that a referee has to fear for his family."
The threats received by the referee also included direct statements such as: "I will stab you in the street," "I will kill you," and "We know where you live." It is worth noting that Pierre Kalulu's dismissal occurred in the 42nd minute of the match after he received his second yellow card, at a time when the score was tied 1-1 between the two teams.
In a related development, several Juventus officials, including Spalletti, Comolli, and Chiellini, confronted the referee at halftime following the red card decision. This incident took place after the Inter Milan vs. Juventus match held at the San Siro stadium.
