Aboub: "We Aimed to Beat USM Alger; VAR Could Have Reviewed Doubtful Situations"
Zakaria Aboub, coach of Olympique Safi, expressed his team's disappointment with the goalless draw against USM Alger in the final matchday of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage, stating it did not meet their aspirations.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Aboub said: "The match was of a good standard, and we aspired to top the group, but when you make mistakes, you pay a heavy price. Our goal was to achieve victory and secure the three points against USM Alger."
He added: "I thank the players for their performance; we created many opportunities. If VAR technology had been present, perhaps some doubtful situations would have been reviewed."
Olympique Safi concluded the group stage in second place with 13 points, having already secured their qualification for the quarter-finals of the continental competition. They finished just one point behind group leaders USM Alger, who amassed 14 points.
