Malik Diouf (Senegal Player): "We Will Go to the World Cup Only to Win It"
Malik Diouf, a defender for the Senegalese national team, asserted that the Teranga Lions' victory in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, hosted by Morocco, was merely one step in a larger project: winning the World Cup. He emphasized that the team's ambitions extend beyond continental achievements.
Speaking in an interview with the "African Talents" program on Canal+, Diouf stated, "If the goal is just to reach the semi-finals, then it's better to stay home. We are Senegal, and we have the ability to win the World Cup; there is no doubt about that."
The West Ham left-back added, "We are a great nation, and we will go there only to win. Some talk about the semi-finals, but for me, that is unacceptable, and I apologize for saying so."
Malik Diouf concluded by affirming that a winning mentality has become deeply ingrained within the Senegalese national team following their recent successes, considering the ultimate ambition to be continuing to make history on the global stage.
