Chelsea Postpones Player Contract Talks Due to FFP Restrictions
Chelsea Football Club has informed players Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, and Levi Colwill that discussions regarding new contract extensions have been postponed. This delay comes despite the agents of all three players having contacted the club's management to initiate negotiations for new deals.
The club's board is reportedly hesitant to proceed with these negotiations due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) restrictions, which limit their ability to offer significant wage increases. Currently, only club captain Reece James earns £200,000 per week or more.
Chelsea needs to generate additional revenue to improve its financial standing and comply with FFP regulations. Consequently, despite Caicedo, Colwill, and Fernandez believing they are deserving of wage increases, the club is refusing to renegotiate their contracts due to ongoing FFP concerns.
