Leaked Phone Call Involving Lazio President Sparks Controversy
A leaked phone call on Saturday revealed a conversation between Lazio president Claudio Lotito and an angry fan. During the call, the supporter accused Lotito of mismanagement, stating: “You sell for 60 and buy for 30, the coach is there for no reason, and the players want to leave. These are the facts.”
Lotito responded to the fan's accusations, saying: “The players want to leave because they don't want the coach. They are against him.”
Hours after the call was leaked, Lotito issued a statement to clarify his remarks, asserting: “At Lazio, there are no players against the coach. Maurizio Sarri enjoys the full confidence of the club, in addition to the complete availability and respect of the team.”
Lotito also condemned the leak, noting: “I consider the publication of a private phone call, stolen and distributed without permission, to be extremely serious.” He announced that legal action would be pursued in cooperation with Lazio through the Italian Data Protection Authority and the competent authorities.
This incident follows a previous club statement against fan protests ahead of Lazio's match against Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico.
