Iwobi: "If Diaz Scored the Penalty, He Would Have Been a Hero; Leave Him Alone, He Had a Good Tournament"
Nigerian international Alex Iwobi described the Africa Cup of Nations "Morocco 2025" as exceptional and full of unforgettable moments. He also extended his support to Moroccan international Brahim Diaz following his penalty miss in the final against Senegal.
Iwobi stated in remarks quoted by the Nigerian website "soccernet": "A big salute to Senegal. The Africa Cup of Nations was an unforgettable tournament, and I am honored to represent my country. Achieving third place is an important accomplishment for us."
Iwobi also dedicated a strong message of support to Brahim Diaz after he missed a crucial penalty, emphasizing that football is not without such difficult moments.
He added: "My regards also go to Brahim Diaz, who is currently going through a difficult time. It took great courage for him to step up and take the penalty; had he scored, he would have been a hero. It just didn't work out this time."
The Nigerian player continued in a humane tone: "Please, leave him alone; this is football. What happened, happened. He had a good tournament, and now he needs to focus on his club and continue working."
Iwobi concluded his remarks by emphasizing that disappointments are part of any professional player's career, stating: "It's difficult to forget such moments, but it's not the end. There's always another chance."
