Eintracht Frankfurt Sacks Coach Dino Toppmöller
German club Eintracht Frankfurt announced on Sunday the sacking of head coach Dino Toppmöller, following earlier reports by the newspaper "Bild". The club stated in its official announcement: "Eintracht Frankfurt and head coach Dino Toppmöller have ended their cooperation with immediate effect. The decision is the result of a comprehensive analysis of recent weeks. Thank you for your dedication, and we wish you all the best for your future projects, Dino."
The decision to dismiss Toppmöller came after a series of negative results, with the team failing to secure a victory in their last four matches. The team also suffered from clear defensive weaknesses, having conceded 39 goals in 17 Bundesliga games, most recently a 3-3 draw against Werder Bremen last Friday.
Commenting on the decision, Sporting Director Markus Krösche explained: "We in the sporting management and the board unanimously came to the conclusion that we need a new impulse due to the decline in recent weeks. So far this season, we have not lived up to the spirit of Eintracht Frankfurt, which represents dynamic, aggressive, and cohesive football." Krösche had previously stated after a 3-3 draw with Wolfsburg: "It's always the same. We didn't perform well from start to finish. We cannot continue like this."
Toppmöller joined the club in 2023. He will be temporarily replaced by U21 coach Dennis Schmitt and U19 coach Alexander Meier. The duo will take charge of the team starting with next Wednesday's match against Azerbaijani club Qarabag, followed by a home game against Tottenham.
