Drew Fernandez Informs Flick of Decision to Leave Barcelona
Young promising midfielder Drew Fernandez informed coach Hansi Flick this morning of his decision to leave Barcelona this winter.
This decision comes after both parties failed to reach an agreement on a contract renewal. The 18-year-old player will activate the €6 million release clause in his contract to terminate his association with the Catalan club.
Fernandez, who joined Barcelona's academy three years ago, will no longer train with the first team. The player had regularly featured in Flick's squad this season, making his first-team debut earlier in the campaign.
Fernandez also accumulated the most minutes and scored during the pre-season tour held in Japan and South Korea. His absence from the Copa del Rey squad against Racing Santander was attributed to these contractual issues. Although his next club has not yet been determined, he intends to seek another club.
