Greenwood Shines for Marseille as Jamaica Pursues Him
Since his arrival at Olympique Marseille in 2024, Mason Greenwood has emerged as one of the team's standout stars, contributing 41 goals and 12 assists in 61 appearances.
Greenwood recently scored a hat-trick and provided two assists in his team's 9-0 French Cup victory against Bayeux, bringing his season tally to 19 goals in 25 matches, helping Marseille secure third place in Ligue 1.
Despite his exceptional form, Greenwood has not been called up to represent England due to his past legal issues. He was accused in January 2022 of "rape, assault, and coercive behavior," before the charges were later dropped.
Last March, Greenwood officially requested to represent the Jamaica national team. However, coach Steve McClaren stated in September, "We have his passport and we were hoping Greenwood would participate in this training camp. However, after speaking with his family, he decided not to join the team at this time. Greenwood said he needed time to think. This is disappointing, but perhaps we should be more patient."
Jamaica is currently competing in international play-off matches for qualification to the 2026 World Cup.
