Terry Yorath, Leeds United Legend and Former Wales Manager, Dies Aged 75
Terry Yorath, the former Leeds United midfielder and Wales national team manager, has passed away at the age of 75 following a short illness.
Born in Cardiff on March 27, 1950, Yorath began his football career with Leeds United, playing for the first team from 1967 to 1976, making his debut in 1968. During his time with Leeds, Yorath won two league titles, one League Cup, one Charity Shield, two FA Cups, and two Fairs Cups. He also represented the Wales national team in 59 international matches, scoring two goals.
Yorath managed the Wales national team from 1988 to 1993, leading the squad to a historic achievement by reaching 27th in the FIFA rankings in August 1993. He also secured notable victories against Brazil and Germany during his tenure. However, he narrowly missed out on qualification for the 1994 World Cup after a 2-1 loss to Romania in Cardiff on November 9, 1993, following Paul Bodin's crucial penalty miss.
Yorath's life also included personal tragedy, with the death of his son Daniel at the age of 15 in May 1992.
