Mourinho Forces Players to Stay Overnight at Club After Defeat
Benfica, managed by coach Jose Mourinho, suffered a 3-1 defeat to ten-man Sporting Braga in the Portuguese League Cup semi-final. The loss occurred at the Dr. Magalhães Pessoa stadium on Thursday evening.
Following this defeat, coach Jose Mourinho revealed his decision to compel his players to stay overnight at the club's training headquarters in Seixal. This move aims to motivate them to reflect on their performance.
Mourinho stated: “The players will sleep in Seixal. Tomorrow [Friday] there is training, and the day after that there is training. Since there is no final match on Saturday, our next game will be against Porto next Wednesday. When we arrive in Seixal (on Wednesday), everyone will go to their rooms. I hope the players sleep as well as I do, which means they won't sleep at all. That's what I wish for them. Not to sleep and to think a lot, just as I will.”
Benfica is preparing to face Porto in the Portuguese Cup quarter-finals next Wednesday, in a highly anticipated match following their recent defeat.
