Emery Reveals Lindelof's Aston Villa Success Secret
Aston Villa, currently third in the Premier League, has seen Victor Lindelof transform into a crucial player for the team, especially following injuries to Tyrone Mings and Pau Torres. The Swedish defender, who joined the club on a free transfer this summer, has started the last six matches, demonstrating excellent form.
In the goalless draw (0-0) against Crystal Palace, Lindelof successfully completed all 85 of his attempted passes, an achievement not seen in the Premier League since February 2022.
Manager Unai Emery revealed that he signed Lindelof based on a recommendation from former Manchester United player Juan Mata. Emery stated, “I coached Mata at Valencia and contacted him three or four years ago because they were teammates at Manchester United. Juan is a great person and very smart, and I asked him about the possibility of signing Lindelof, as a player and as a person, and also about his commitment.”
Emery added, “He is brilliant. Everything he told me, we see now. He is a great young man, very professional, respectful, very passionate, and he has adapted to playing on the right side.” Emery also told Lindelof, “You have set a very high standard, and now you cannot lower it.”
