Congo Shifts Focus to World Cup Qualifiers After AFCON Exit
The Democratic Republic of Congo's journey in the Africa Cup of Nations ended in the Round of 16 after Algerian substitute Adel Boulbina scored the winning goal in extra time. The "Leopards" have now shifted their focus towards the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
In this regard, coach Sébastien Desabre stated, "We must meticulously analyze what didn't work because some things didn't go as planned." He added, "We must immediately focus on a crucial objective awaiting us in March."
Congo will compete in a playoff match in Mexico on March 31 against either New Caledonia or Jamaica, aiming to qualify for the World Cup to be held in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
Meanwhile, captain Chancel Mbemba, who has scored crucial goals in previous qualifiers, said, "But we still have one last competition, a final match, God willing." Young players from the diaspora, such as Noah Sadiki, are also contributing to the team's progress.
