Erik ten Hag Returns to FC Twente as Technical Director
Dutch club FC Twente has announced the return of coach Erik ten Hag to its ranks. He will integrate into the club's structure starting February 1st and will officially assume the role of Technical Director, succeeding Jan Streuer, from the 2026-2027 season, with a contract extending until the summer of 2028. This unexpected move marks a return to Ten Hag's roots, where his football career began as both a player and a coach.
Ten Hag expressed his feelings about this return, stating: “I find it very beautiful and special to return to FC Twente, where I attended as a fan at the Diekman Stadium since my childhood. My career as a player and coach started here.”
Ten Hag further elaborated on his vision for the new position: “Thanks to my experience in youth development, team building, and top-level culture, I want to strengthen the club's technical foundations so that Twente can sustainably achieve its potential as a regional flagship.”
Dominik Scholten, the club's General Manager, commented: “Erik has an incredible football career, and his connection to FC Twente has always remained very strong.” It is worth noting that Ten Hag previously won the League Cup and FA Cup with Manchester United, three Eredivisie titles with Ajax, and reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2019.
