Aston Villa Decides Against Permanent Harvey Elliott Signing
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery confirmed on Friday that the club made a decision two months ago not to permanently sign Harvey Elliott, who is currently on loan from Liverpool.
Elliott, 22, joined Villa on a season-long loan with a clause that would obligate the club to purchase him permanently based on a certain number of appearances. Emery stated, “The problem we have with Harvey is that he is on loan this year, and if he plays a certain number of games, we have to buy him.”
The manager added, “We decided two months ago that we are not convinced about signing him and spending the required amount.” This decision has led to Elliott not featuring in Premier League matches since last September, in order to avoid triggering the transfer clause.
Emery acknowledged that this situation is “not good for him or for us.”
Aston Villa, currently third in the league table, faces an injury crisis with players like Tyrone Mings, Pau Torres, Amadou Onana, Ross Barkley, Evan Guessand, and Alisson all sidelined ahead of their home match against Nottingham Forest.
