The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has opted to open a new chapter within its youth national teams, as its president, Fouzi Lekjaa, announced on Monday the appointment of national coach Mohamed Wahbi to lead the Olympic team. The announcement was made during an international conference held at the Faculty of Legal, Economic, and Social Sciences in Rabat, centered on “Sport and Development in Africa.”

This appointment entrusts Wahbi with the task of overseeing a generation preparing for a major upcoming event: the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. It follows the significant impact the coach made with the U20 national team, where he led the “Atlas Cubs” to an unprecedented achievement, winning the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, concluding a remarkable campaign with a historic victory over Argentina in the final.

Wahbi, who left his teaching career to dedicate his full time to his passion for coaching, now succeeds Tarik Sektioui, the coach who secured a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, marking the first Olympic medal in Moroccan football history.

During his speech, Lekjaa emphasized that the next phase requires increased ambition, stating that the Federation's goal is to prepare a team capable of competing for gold at the Los Angeles Olympics. He also stressed that this choice aligns with a strategy focused on continuing and building upon the successes of the generation that made a strong mark in the Youth World Cup.
