Utrecht Coach on El Karouani Injury: "I Don't Know if There's a Concussion... We Have to Wait, But the Situation Wasn't Good"
Utrecht coach Ron Jans discussed the injury of Moroccan international Souffian El Karouani, who was forced to leave the pitch at halftime during his team's match against Real Betis last Thursday, following a strong collision with the Dutch club's goalkeeper.
In a statement to "Ziggo Sport," the Utrecht coach confirmed that the situation did not require the player to be taken to the hospital. He stated, "There was no need to go to the hospital. He went to the hotel by taxi with medical accompaniment." Jans added that El Karouani appeared disoriented after the incident, emphasizing, "He lost his focus for moments, and I cannot provide any diagnosis now. I don't know if there's a concussion; we have to wait. But the situation wasn't good."
The Dutch coach expressed his regret over what happened, describing the start of the match as "crazy" for his team, especially after a series of injuries affected players from both sides.
Jans concluded, "It was an unbelievable start. They collided with each other (Amrabat and Isco), and both were injured. I spoke with the Betis coach, and Isco's injury also seems serious."
