AS: Real Betis Faces Major Challenge to Replace Amrabat as AFCON Nears, Pellegrini Deems Him Irreplaceable
Spanish newspaper AS has highlighted the significant role played by Moroccan international Sofyan Amrabat at Real Betis, where he has become a key component in coach Manuel Pellegrini's tactical plans.
The report noted that despite Amrabat only featuring in the second half against Girona in La Liga, he was the second-highest player in terms of ball recoveries after Valentín Gómez, demonstrating his considerable impact even in limited minutes.
Pellegrini had initially decided to start the match without Amrabat to rest him after his return from international duty with the Moroccan national team. However, he was compelled to introduce him at the start of the second half to restore balance to the team in a game where Girona dominated offensive transitions.
Despite having competitors in the defensive midfield position, such as Johnny Cardoso, Sergi Altimira, Marc Roca, Fornals, and even Isco, Amrabat's presence brings clear cohesion to the midfield thanks to his high capacity for covering spaces and disrupting opposition play.
AS further indicated that Real Betis faces a significant challenge with the approaching Africa Cup of Nations regarding Amrabat's anticipated absence. Pellegrini reportedly considers him a player who cannot be easily replaced, and the club is currently focusing on his physical preparation to avoid any injuries.
The Moroccan player's future remains open, as he is currently playing for Real Betis on loan from Turkish club Fenerbahçe. The Andalusian club may negotiate to sign him permanently, similar to how they secured Antony last summer.
