Everton Manager Comments on Idrissa Gueye's Red Card: "I like my players to fight among themselves"

Everton secured an important 1-0 victory over Manchester United last Monday evening. The match saw the Toffees play with ten men from the 13th minute due to an unusual sending-off incident, where Idrissa Gana Gueye received a red card after an altercation with his teammate Michael Keane.

Everton manager, David Moyes, downplayed the significance of the incident after the match, suggesting it reflected his players' fighting spirit.

The Scottish coach told Sky Sports: "I thought the referee could have had a good think before making the decision. I'm told that under the rules of the game, if you slap one of your own players, you can be in trouble."

He added: "I like my players to fight among themselves when someone is not doing their job properly. If you want that toughness and resilience to get a result, you want someone to respond. I'm disappointed we got a red card, but we've all been players before, and we get angry with our teammates. Idrissa has apologised for what happened and congratulated and thanked the players for what they delivered."
