Idrissa Gueye Apologizes After Red Card for Slapping Teammate: "Nothing Justifies Such Behavior, But It Doesn't Reflect My Personality"
Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye has issued an apology following his surprising red card yesterday during his team's match against hosts Manchester United, which saw the "Toffees" secure a one-nil away victory.
Gueye received an unusual red card, being sent off for slapping teammate Michael Keane after a misunderstanding on the pitch over a ball that nearly resulted in a goal against Everton.
Writing on his Instagram story, Gueye stated: "Firstly, I would like to apologize to my teammate Michael Keane, and I take full responsibility for my reaction. I also apologize to the rest of my teammates, the coaching staff, the fans, and the club."
The Senegalese player concluded: "What happened does not reflect my personality or the values I stand for. Emotions can sometimes take over, but nothing justifies such behavior, and I will ensure that it never happens again."
