Pogba Returns After Two-Year Absence: 'The Devil Tries to Whisper in Your Head'

French midfielder Paul Pogba made his return to competitive football yesterday, Saturday, in his team's 4-1 loss against Stade Rennais during the 13th round of the French league. This marked his first appearance in over two years, and he shared his feelings after the match.

Speaking just minutes after playing his first competitive minutes in over two years, Pogba stated, "I was disappointed to lose this match (1-4), but in the end, it's still beautiful. I was touched by the fans' welcome at the stadium; I didn't imagine seeing them stand up and applaud. Thank you to all the fans who supported me."

When asked about a potential return to the French national team and possible participation in the 2026 World Cup, the 32-year-old Pogba replied, "All of that is very far away. I'm focused on regaining my fitness to help the team. If I don't perform well at Monaco, then I should forget about the French national team."

Asked if he feared not being able to make a comeback, Pogba affirmed, "Certainly not, otherwise I would have ended my career. I am a competitive person, and football is not over. We worked and waited for over two years, and today it happened, thank God. There are moments when the devil tries to whisper in your head to tell you it's over, but there is a generous God. I believe in myself and my abilities."
