Argentine club Lanús has been crowned champions of the Copa Sudamericana after defeating their Brazilian rivals Atlético Mineiro 5-4 in a penalty shootout on Saturday evening, following a goalless draw (0-0) in regular time.

The match, held at the Defensores del Chaco Stadium in Asunción, the capital of Paraguay, ended 0-0 after regular time, leading to extra time. With no goals scored during the additional periods, the fate of the trophy was decided by a penalty shootout.

The penalty shootout favored Lanús, who secured a 5-4 victory. The Brazilian team missed three penalties, while the Argentinians missed two.

This marks Lanús's second Copa Sudamericana title, with their first triumph coming in 2013. They had previously lost the final in 2020.
