Paraguay's Cubas Misses Friendlies Due to Washing Machine Incident
Midfielder Andrés Cubas, 29, missed Paraguay's two recent international friendlies against the United States and Mexico. His absence was due to his passport being damaged after he accidentally left it in a pair of trousers that were subsequently put in a washing machine. This incident prevented him from completing his visa procedures to depart Canada in time, where he plays for Canadian club Vancouver Whitecaps.
Despite obtaining a new passport, Cubas was unable to travel and join the national team. Speaking to "ABC TV," his father, Francisco Cubas, explained that his son had forgotten his passport in his trousers and that the laundry worker did not notice it. He added: "My son made a mistake and forgot his passport in his trousers. The lady working at the laundry also didn't notice it and put it in the washing machine. He is very upset."
Paraguay played both friendlies without Cubas. They lost 1-2 to the United States last Saturday but secured a 2-1 victory over Mexico last Tuesday.
