U17 World Cup Qatar 2025: A Historic Edition with Record Numbers and Exceptional Organization
The FIFA U17 World Cup Qatar 2025 has captured global attention following the conclusion of the group stage. This edition, the largest in the tournament's history, features 48 participating teams, with all matches taking place within the Aspire Zone complex, which transformed into a global football festival for nine consecutive days.
The group stage witnessed historic numbers, with 72 consecutive matches played over just nine days – an unprecedented feat in FIFA competitions. A total of 250 goals were scored, making this the first edition in the category's history to surpass the 200-goal mark. Among the most notable moments, the Moroccan national team achieved the largest victory in U17 World Cup history, defeating New Caledonia 16-0.
Individual brilliance and emerging talents also made their mark. Czech player Vít Škrkoň scored the tournament's first hat-trick in just seven minutes. Meanwhile, Belgium's René Mitongo netted the first 'super hat-trick' with four goals against Fiji in a 7-0 victory.
For the first time in the tournament's history, a Round of 32 was introduced in this edition. Traditional powerhouses like Germany and Brazil advanced, alongside surprise qualifiers such as the Republic of Ireland, Uganda, and Zambia. Three Arab national teams – Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt – also secured their spots in the knockout stage.
Qatar's organization received widespread praise. Jassim Al Jassim, CEO of the Local Organizing Committee, stated: “Qatar is writing history again by organizing the largest edition in the history of the U17 World Cup, creating a global atmosphere that combines football and culture.” FIFA Secretary General Matheus Grafstrom also commented: “Qatar has elevated youth football to a new level. Watching eight matches in one day within Aspire is an unprecedented experience.”

The Round of 32 matches are set to kick off on November 14 and 15 within the Aspire Zone. This edition continues to solidify its reputation as one of the most successful FIFA tournaments in history, excelling in organization, fan attendance, and infrastructure.
The Moroccan national team left its indelible mark on the group stage, etching its name into the U17 World Cup history books with the largest victory ever recorded in the tournament – a resounding 16-0 triumph over New Caledonia, a match that will remain legendary in FIFA records. Despite losses to Japan and Portugal, the national team bounced back strongly in the final group match, securing their passage to the Round of 32 as one of the best third-placed teams, continuing their global journey led by an ambitious generation confident in their ability to go far.
The advancement of three Arab national teams (Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt) to the next round reflects the significant development of Arab football at youth levels. It also highlights Morocco's strong presence in various international competitions recently, particularly following the U20 category's World Cup triumph.
