Turkish Federation Refers 1,024 Players to Disciplinary Committee Over Betting Scandal
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced the referral of 1,024 professional players to its Disciplinary Committee, effective Monday, November 10. This action, taken under Article 57 of the Disciplinary Regulations, follows confirmed evidence of their involvement in match-betting activities.
In an official statement, the TFF clarified that these measures are part of ongoing investigations into professional Turkish league competitions. It noted that decisions regarding the referred players have been made progressively and preventatively, pending a final ruling.
Recognizing the potential impact of these sanctions on club rosters, the TFF has decided to initiate urgent negotiations with FIFA. The aim is to secure an additional 15-day registration period during the 2025-2026 winter transfer window at the national level, allowing clubs to compensate for potential player shortages.
The TFF Board of Directors also issued a decision today to postpone matches in the Turkish Second Division and Third Division for two weeks. However, games in the Süper Lig, Premier League, and First League will proceed as previously scheduled.
The federation noted that only 47 players were identified as participating in a single betting operation. Their disciplinary referrals will proceed based on new documents and evidence provided by official authorities, aiming to prevent any irreparable harm.
The TFF concluded its statement by emphasizing that communication with official authorities is ongoing, and investigations may expand should additional information emerge. The federation reaffirmed its full commitment to transparency and discipline within Turkish football.
