Riquelme Pledges Rodri Signing for Real Madrid if Elected President
Enrique Riquelme, a candidate for the Real Madrid presidency, has announced that Spanish star Rodri, winner of the Golden Ball award, will play for the Royal Club if he wins the upcoming elections. Riquelme stated that this move aims to strengthen the team's national identity and meet its technical and sporting needs in the future.
Riquelme affirmed that signing Rodri is a fundamental pillar of his electoral campaign, describing him as a great player the team currently lacks. Enrique Riquelme stated, "If I become president of Madrid, Rodri will play for Madrid. He is a great Spanish player, a Golden Ball winner, and represents the profile the club needs. With me as president, Real Madrid will have a Spanish player at the World Cup," highlighting the necessity of strong local representation within the Meringues' starting lineup.
Rodri, for his part, clarified his position regarding these reports while with the Spanish national team, emphasizing that his current focus is entirely on fulfilling his duties as captain of the national squad in international competitions. He stated, "This is part of football, and I am focused on being a leader in the national team; this is my path. I understand the noise, but I will not dedicate my time to it. We will see what happens after the World Cup," reflecting his desire to postpone determining his professional future until after the tournament.
The Spanish candidate reinforced the credibility of his project by signing legally documented guarantees with a notary to ensure the implementation of his announced sporting promises, which also included pursuing Norwegian striker Erling Haaland. Riquelme further pledged to cover the membership fees for all 100,000 club members if he fails to fulfill the contractual promises he has announced.
