Bellingham Enters Cricket World with Birmingham Phoenix Stake Purchase
Warwickshire County Cricket Club announced that England international Jude Bellingham has officially acquired a 1.2% minority stake in the Birmingham Phoenix cricket franchise, a team competing in England's The Hundred tournament. The announcement on Wednesday confirms the Real Madrid player's move to diversify his sports investments in his hometown.
With this acquisition, the 22-year-old player joins an ownership structure led by Warwickshire County Cricket Club, which holds a 50.4% stake, and Nighthead Capital Management Group, which owns 48.4%. This move aims to strengthen ties between sports stars and local clubs in Birmingham.
In a related context, Jude Bellingham affirmed that his investment stems from a desire to support the younger generation. The England star said, "I feel like I owe something back to the city. I was lucky growing up to have the opportunity to play cricket and football, but some kids don't get that opportunity, and it's so important that I help highlight those opportunities for kids." He emphasized that the initiative represents an effective way to serve the community where his sporting career began.
