Napoli Resolves Romelu Lukaku Crisis in Crucial Meeting
Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku held talks in Naples with his Italian club's management, including his agent Federico Pastorello and Sporting Director Giovanni Manna. The meeting aimed to clarify outstanding issues between the two parties. Discussions were described as calm, cooperative, and constructive, focusing on resolving the controversy surrounding the player's absence from training sessions last March.
These discussions followed reports suggesting a potential financial penalty for Lukaku due to his unauthorized absence from training on March 26, which necessitated intervention to resolve the crisis amicably. In the interim, the involved parties reached a compromise: the striker will complete his rehabilitation program for a hamstring injury in Belgium to ensure his full readiness before joining his national team's training camp for the World Cup.
During his visit to Naples, Lukaku met with coach Antonio Conte as he races against time to return to the pitch, expected to be ready for action in approximately two weeks. Regarding financial commitments, the player, who cost the club €30 million, remains under contract for one more year with an annual salary of €8.5 million, despite missing most of the current season, having participated in only seven matches.
