CAS Rejects Urgent Procedure in AFCON Final Case, Final Decision Post-World Cup
Investigative journalist Romain Molina has once again sparked debate after revealing that the dispute concerning the match between Morocco and Senegal will not be fast-tracked by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Molina confirmed that a decision on the case would be postponed until after the World Cup finals.
Molina wrote on his X account: "As expected, no urgent procedure will be adopted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and the ruling in the Morocco and Senegal case will be revealed after the World Cup."
These developments unfold as the repercussions of the Africa Cup of Nations final continue to cast a shadow over the football landscape, amidst the widespread controversy that surrounded the match.
The match originally concluded with a 1-0 victory for the Senegalese national team. However, the case was subsequently referred to the Disciplinary Committee and then the CAF Appeals Board, which ultimately ruled to crown the Moroccan national team and deemed Senegal to have withdrawn from the match.
The final decision, expected after the World Cup, is anticipated to be a pivotal moment, either by upholding the match results or confirming Morocco's championship title, in what has become one of the most captivating cases in recent African football.
