Alberola Rojas Appointed Referee for Copa del Rey Final Between Atlético Madrid and Real Sociedad
The Technical Committee of Referees of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has announced the appointment of Javier Alberola Rojas to officiate the Copa del Rey final. The match will feature Atlético Madrid and Real Sociedad next Saturday at La Cartuja stadium. Jorge Figueroa Vázquez will serve as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for the anticipated encounter.
This assignment marks the first time in his career that Alberola Rojas will officiate a Copa del Rey final since joining the top-flight referees in 2017. His selection follows a distinguished career, during which he has won the Guruceta Award, presented by Spanish newspaper Marca for the best referee, on three previous occasions. This reflects significant confidence in his ability to manage such decisive encounters.
Regarding previous matches this season, the Spanish referee has officiated two games involving Real Sociedad, one resulting in a win and the other in a loss. He also managed one Atlético Madrid match, which saw them secure a 5-2 victory over Real Madrid. Rojas had also recently overseen the Real Madrid versus Girona fixture in La Liga before receiving this official appointment for the final.
