Trial of Five Lyon Fans Postponed to May 2027 Following PSG Match Incidents
The Criminal Court in Lyon, France, has postponed the immediate appearance of five Olympique Lyonnais fans until May 2027. The decision came after the session, originally scheduled for Friday, could not proceed. This extended delay is due to a lawyers' strike, which has paralyzed standard judicial procedures and prevented the completion of legal steps on the previously set date for the case.
Last November, Groupama Stadium was the scene of a violent altercation following a match between Olympique Lyonnais and Paris Saint-Germain. These fans were implicated in a physical assault on a spectator. The incident resulted in a formal complaint and a comprehensive investigation launched by French authorities to uncover the circumstances of the attack and precisely identify those responsible before their referral to the judiciary.
French police identified the five individuals through a meticulous review of images captured by over 400 surveillance cameras distributed throughout the stadium. This enabled authorities to track their movements and document their involvement in the confrontations. Furthermore, it was revealed that one of these fans was already serving a suspended sentence due to a previous conviction, adding new legal complexities to his personal file ahead of the upcoming hearing.
