Javier Tebas Backs UEFA Sanction Against Real Madrid Over Nazi Gesture
Javier Tebas, president of La Liga, has endorsed the sanction imposed by UEFA on Real Madrid, describing the decision as an appropriate measure to combat misconduct in stadiums. Tebas clarified that the penalty was a result of a Nazi gesture made by some fans, emphasizing the importance of taking firm action against such behavior to ensure discipline in the stands.
During the presentation ceremony for the La Liga Under-12 World Cup, the league president affirmed that partial stadium closures represent the optimal way to handle such incidents and prevent their recurrence. Tebas stated: “Partial closure of the stands is the path we must follow in such situations,” noting that this approach contributes to promoting high sporting values.
Tebas also highlighted the necessity of expanding the scope of these punitive measures to include not only racist acts but also chants indicative of fanaticism in all its forms. Evaluating the specific sanction against the Royal Club, Tebas declared: “It is appropriate,” considering that the continental federation’s decisions align with global football’s anti-hate initiatives.
These statements come amidst preparations for the La Liga Under-12 World Cup, scheduled to take place in Brunete, Spain, from March 25 to 29. In a related context, it was noted that Real Madrid was absent from the Retro Tour events, based on a voluntary decision previously made by the club’s management.
