Real Madrid Announces Death of Board Member Santiago Aguado at 89
Spanish club Real Madrid has announced the passing of Santiago Aguado, a member of its board of directors, at the age of 89. Aguado held membership number 1,091 at the royal club, having been associated with the sports institution since 1957 and holding prominent administrative positions throughout his decades-long career.
In a statement issued on February 27, 2026, the club revealed that Aguado served on the Board of Directors during two separate periods. The first ran from July 2004 to July 2006, while the second began in June 2009 and continued until his passing, under the presidency of Florentino Pérez. Aguado also took on the role of patron for the Real Madrid Foundation, contributing to the club's social and charitable activities.
During Santiago Aguado's tenure in management, the club achieved exceptional sporting success, securing 59 titles across various sports, including six European Cups in football and three in basketball. In his personal life, he is survived by his wife, Beatriz Martínez de Medinilla Moro, and his five children: Marta, Rocío, Santiago, Enrique, and Belén.
Aguado's career with Real Madrid was not limited to senior leadership roles; he also represented the club as a delegate member between 1996 and 1998. The deceased is considered a historical figure within the club, given that his official relationship with the entity began on August 1, 1957, and he remained closely linked to it until his final days.
